Which products get VAT?
By default the VAT is calculated over every product in the form. When some products don’t carry VAT, open the settings of the EU VAT field, set “Apply VAT to” to “Selected Products” and pick the products under “Select taxable products”.

A product always brings its options and its quantity along: the VAT is calculated over (product price + option prices) × quantity. So to tax a product with its options, select the product field. The selector also lists Option fields, but selecting an Option field on its own adds nothing.
Shipping
When your form has a Shipping field, the shipping costs are always part of the VAT calculation, in both “All Products” and “Selected Products”. There is nothing to set up.
Coupons
With the Gravity Forms Coupons add-on, the VAT is calculated over the price after the discount, as the EU VAT rules require. When only some products carry VAT, the discount is spread over all products in proportion to their price, so the taxable products get their share of the discount. A coupon of 100% leaves nothing to pay, so no VAT either.
Example: a taxable product of €80 and a product without VAT of €20, with a coupon of €10. The taxable product gets 80% of the discount (€8), so the VAT is calculated over €72.
GP eCommerce Fields
- Subtotal field: works together with EU VAT.
- Discount field: not supported yet. The VAT in the form and the VAT that is saved come out differently, and a form with a Total field can’t be submitted.
- Tax field: not supported. Use one of the two, not both.
While GP eCommerce Fields is active, it replaces the order summary of every form with its own version. The VAT then shows up as a line between the products. The amounts and the total are still correct.
