The EU VAT box on the entry page

Open an entry and you find a box called “EU VAT” in the right column. When your customer validated a VAT number, it shows what VIES returned:

  • Company Name and Company Address
  • VAT Number, including the country code
  • Normal Rate: the standard VAT rate of the country of the VAT number
  • IP: the IP address your customer used
  • Country: the country of the VAT number
  • Checked on: the date and time of the check, in GMT

Below that, the box tells you what happened: “VAT reverse charged” when no VAT was charged, or “Valid VAT number, VAT charged (default country)” for a valid number from your own country. Entries without a validated VAT number show “No tax data entered”.

Exporting entries

Go to Forms > Import/Export > Export Entries and select the parts of the EU VAT field you need:

  • Vat Amount: the VAT as a number, for example 21.00
  • Country Code: the country code of the VAT number
  • Vat Nr: the VAT number

The column “Identifier” is only used by the plugin itself and stays empty in the export. The VIES details from the EU VAT box are not part of the export; use the {vies:…} merge tags in a notification when you need them elsewhere.

Keep your proof

The entry is your proof of the reverse charge: the VIES answer, the date of the check and your customer’s IP address and billing address are all in it. Keep the entries of your sales for as long as your tax authority requires, and think twice before you delete them or use a plugin that cleans up old entries.
